Samantha Fewster

Samantha Fewster aka Sam

(Pronouns - she/her/hers)

I work as a Food Technologist for multiple small businesses, including my family honey business, Forest Fresh Honey. My job is to make sure our product is safe, meets legal requirements and is good quality.

I am part of the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology WA branch. We organise technical events for our members.

Rotary Orgin Story: I participated in many of the Rotary Youth Programs when I was in high school. In 2014, a few years after participating in these, I was invited to join Rotaract when I volunteered at one of these events and ran into a Rotarian I knew from my time in high school. I joined Rotaract shortly after and haven't looked back. I joined the Rotary Club of Elizabeth Quay in 2021.

I joined because I wanted to give back to the community and trusted the person who invited me to come along. I have stayed because I feel I am genuinely making a difference, and value the people I have met and the person I have become in the process.

Roles and Achievements in Rotaract and Rotary:

  • WA Rotaractor of the Year 2017

  • Paul Harris Fellow awardee 2018

  • District 9455 & 9465 Rotaract Representative 2017-2019

  • Australian Rotaractor of the Year 2019

  • Selected as one of the inaugural Rotaractors to attend the International Assembly 2019

  • Rotaract Australia Vice Chair 2019-2020, Rotaract Australia Chair 2020-2021

  • Member of the provisional Rotaract Club of Melville City (current)

I have had the honour and privilege to be part of so many projects and sit on or lead a variety of different boards.

A highlight would have to be leading the Rotaract Australia multi district information organisation during the peak of the pandemic, and supporting many of our members and their clubs through that challenging time.

I am also very humbled to have received some awards during my time in the Rotary family.

Tell us a personal attribute you are proud? Holding my place as a dove in a room full of peacocks.

Chat cheers you up? Walking my dog and repotting plants.

What is your preferred form of communication style? Words are not my thing. I prefer diagrams with hand actions and just a few spoken/written words.

What is your idea of fun? Exploring new places or learning new things with people I care about.

Do you enjoy the outdoors? What’s your favourite outdoor activity? I love gardening and have an excessive collection of plants.

What is the funniest thing one of your pets have done? Our budgie, Tango, loves to sit on the arm of reading glasses and nap there, or groom your eyebrows. It is still so funny to watch.

If you were to meet your 15 year old self what advice would you give them? "At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel." ― Maya Angelou

How do you relax? Painting, video games, watching action tv shows, gardening and playing with pets.

What is your go-to dinner recipe and how do you make it? My late Pop taught us how to make home made pasta. It is not only delicious but reminds me of him.
